August 6th from 10am-2pm
Join us for a fun family day as we raise awareness about foster care in our local community. Live entertainment, games, activities, raffles and food concessions will fill the park. Local foster care agencies will be on hand so you can learn about foster care and how you could become involved.
There are so many ways you can help the Foster Care system and the children they support.
Current Schedule of Events
Coming This Year
In the fall of 2014 one of the members attended Love Philadelphia, which was a day focused on foster care and at risk children in the city of Philadelphia. They offered delicious food, games, face painting, crafts and much, much more. Local agencies were there to provide next steps to serve the foster care community.
That day, a seed was planted. What if we could bring an event like this to Lancaster? There is a great need for foster families in Lancaster County. Over 400 children are currently in foster care and there are currently not enough foster families to care for all of them.
The seed started to grow with encouragement from others. Friends and family were contacted and other connections with others were made. By January 2015 a team was formed and Lancaster Family Day sprouted. The team includes foster parents, adoptive parents, social workers, and advocates for foster care and adoption. We have been working diligently to plan this event and we hope it is a wonderful day to celebrate the foster care community of Lancaster.
To raise awareness about Foster Care and to show appreciation to the current foster families in our hometown. Local community foster care agencies will be at the event in hopes to bring awareness of the growing need for foster families in Lancaster County.
Thank you for making this year’s event such a success!!!
Mark your calendars for next year . . . Lancaster Family Day is August 6, 2016!!!
If you came out to the event, you saw first hand what a wonderful day it was! It was a beautiful day in the park, which was filled with many families have a great time together.
Over 500 people were in attendance. Face painting, balloon animals, bubbles, a gaga pit, plinko, corn hole and crafts kept the kids busy. Everyone enjoyed live entertainment by the Dkers juggling act, a concert by Bruce Fite and a reptile show from Jesse Rothaker of Forgotten Friends Reptile Sanctuary. Of course there were lots of yummy food options with Auntie Anne’s, Chick fil A, Lancaster Cupcake, AUSam Trolley and Miller Brothers Ice Cream.
We were able to give a free meal to over 275 foster parents and children who attended the event.
There were also a lot of donated items up for raffle that were won by families as well. Read More
